79 Series Work Ute Build | Suspension, Comfort, Communication, Touring Upgrades & MORE - Mick Tighe 4x4 & Outdoor

79 Series Ready for Outback Work

This 79 Series came to us for a practical, reliable setup for a shearer who spends plenty of time travelling between sheds and working out in the back country. The aim was simple: build something tough, comfortable, and ready for long days on rough roads.

Here’s how it came together.

Set Up for Load Carrying & Outback Tracks

We fitted the IRONMAN Foam Cell PRO suspension paired with an Airbag Man rear airbag kit to keep the Cruiser level and controlled, whether it’s carrying shearing gear or towing. A Safari Armax snorkel helps the engine breathe cleaner in dusty country, and the 12,000lb IRONMAN synthetic winch adds peace of mind when travelling solo.

Lighting is sorted with STEDI Type-X Pros up front and a STEDI worklight on the driver’s side, handy for early starts or late pack-ups.

Comfort, Communication & Interior Gear

Inside, the ute now has Black Duck canvas seat covers, Sandgrabba mats, and a One Stone arm rest, small upgrades that make a big difference after long hours on the road.
A Cruiser Consoles full-length console gives extra storage and keeps the cab tidy.

For comms, we installed the GME XRS-370 UHF with the AE4704B antenna, making it easy to stay in touch on remote tracks.

Touring Power, Fuel & Storage

A REDARC dual battery system with a 25A DC/DC charger, 100Ah AGM battery, solar input and Anderson plug ensures there’s plenty of reliable power for tools, a fridge, or camp gear. The Rhino-Rack Pioneer Tradie platform adds carrying space for whatever the next job requires.

Underneath, the Long Ranger 180L long-range tank means fewer fuel stops and more time getting where you need to go.

Towing & Protection

We added a TAG Class 4 towbar and REDARC Tow-Pro controller for safe towing, along with the Ryco catch can and pre-filter for extra engine protection on dusty runs.
Clearview Next Gen mirrors finish it off with better visibility when towing or working in tight spots.

Built to Work, Ready for the Outback

Nothing over the top, just a solid, reliable setup built around real work and long kilometres. This 79 is now well and truly ready for the shearing circuit and the outback tracks that come with it.
