Day nine Already! We couldn’t believe how quickly time had flown. The morning started with coffee and presents at Kakadu as we celebrated Eloise's 25th birthday before packing up camp and hitting the road towards Humpty Doo.
Humpty Doo holds a very special place in our hearts, as it's where Mick's late sister Terri lived. One of her favourite places to spend time was the Humpty Doo Hotel, so it only felt right to celebrate Eloise's birthday there. We booked into the campground and cabins just behind the hotel, making it the perfect base for the night.
After arriving early in the afternoon, we settled in with a few drinks and raised a glass in Terri's honour. It was a lovely afternoon filled with plenty of laughs, old stories and happy memories.
We also surprised Eloise with a beautiful birthday cake made by Kristy from the local business Kristy's Crafty Cakes, which made the celebration even more special.
As the evening rolled on, we headed back to the Humpty Doo Hotel for one last hurrah and also some rum and cokes to celebrate once again before a strong night's sleep.
Day ten was a special day. We took the kids to visit Terri’s gravesite for the first time. Hazza brought a beer and we all shared a sip and thoughts for Terri, and we left behind some flowers for her as we left. A simple but meaningful way to honour someone who remains an important part of our lives. Terri would have loved the visit.
Afterwards we headed to our new campground at Litchfield National Park – the Florence Falls Old 4WD Campground, where we settled in while taking in the once again beautiful bushland and scenery. The campground is conveniently placed a short walk from Florence Falls, which we b-lined to asap after setting up camp.
Hazza spotted out some of the best spots to flip from and Donnie managed to spot and photograph some sizable Sooty Grunters swimming in the clear water below.
These falls are magnificent, busy on some days but with plenty of space it has already become one of our favourite stops.
We finished the evening out with a fire, Rugby League (I think we all tipped Storm in their loss against Manly) and spotting some more rainbow bee-eaters.
After another unforgettable day we went to bed excited for the next.
