CAMP & ADVENTURE UPGRADES
WHAT UPGRADES
ARE BEST FOR
YOUR BT-50?
Isuzu’s factory suspension suits everyday driving, but it struggles once you add gear like bull bars, fridges, or towing setups. A suspension upgrade lifts your D-MAX or MU-X, restores ride height under load, and makes rough road driving far smoother. A 2-inch lift helps with approach angles off-road, and quality shocks keep the ride stable on corrugations. If you’re heading up the range or towing a camper on uneven ground, it’s an upgrade well worth considering.
Recommended Brands: Ironman 4x4 is our top pick for Isuzu suspension – their kits are affordable, durable, and designed for Aussie touring conditions. From light touring to constant 300kg loads, Ironman’s range includes foam cell and gas options to suit how you use your Isuzu. For specialist needs, we also offer Dobinsons, TSA, EFS, and JMACX GVM kits. With decades of experience fitting Isuzus around Toowoomba, we’ll help you match the right spring and shock setup to your lifestyle. Our priority is helping your D-MAX or MU-X ride better, carry more, and handle the bush with confidence.
A bull bar is one of the first accessories many Isuzu owners fit, and for good reason. In the rural stretches of the Darling Downs, it’s common to encounter wildlife on the roads – kangaroos, wallabies, even stray livestock. A solid bull bar protects your D-MAX or MU-X from animal strikes and minor collisions, preventing expensive damage and potential stranding. It essentially armors the front of your Isuzu, shielding vital components like the radiator and headlights. Beyond protection, bull bars provide convenient mounting points for other upgrades (driving lights, antennas, winches). For the MU-X, a bull bar can also enhance its off-road capability by improving the approach angle and safeguarding the bumper on steep tracks. And let’s admit it – a nicely designed bull bar gives your 4WD a tougher look that many owners love.
Brands: We supply a range of bull bars compatible with Isuzu models, including Ironman 4x4, Offroad Animal, and ECB. Ironman 4x4 bull bars are a great all-round choice – available in traditional black steel or sleek color-coded finishes, with options for hoops to protect the grille and headlights. Offroad Animal offers a modern spin, with bars that have aggressive styling and often slightly lighter weight; they look fantastic on the current D-MAX, complementing its sharp lines. ECB (East Coast Bull Bars) specializes in high-strength alloy bull bars – these are lighter than steel (good for not overloading your front suspension) yet still provide solid protection and are popular among those conscious of their GVM. All our bull bars are airbag-compatible and meet Australian standards, so you maintain safety compliance. We also have accessories like bash plates and underbody guards to pair with the bar. In Toowoomba and surrounds, we’ve fitted bull bars for folks who commute at dawn/dusk (when roos are active) and those hitting 4WD parks – the feedback is always that a bull bar is a worthwhile investment in peace of mind. Plus, you’ll be ready to mount a winch or lights whenever you decide to add them.
Isuzu D-MAX utes are often the workhorses of families and businesses here, frequently towing everything from tradies’ box trailers to camper trailers and medium caravans. The MU-X, with its 7-seat capacity, also makes a great tow rig for a caravan or boat for weekend getaways. To tow safely and comfortably, a few upgrades make a big difference. First, a quality heavy-duty towbar (if not already fitted) is essential – it ensures you can tow up to the Isuzu’s rated capacity (often 3,500kg for D-MAX) with confidence. Heavy-duty towbars have reinforced designs and use a standard 50mm hitch receiver, which allows swapping different hitch attachments (like a ball mount, pintle hitch, or recovery hitch). Next, towing mirrors are a must when towing wider loads like caravans – extended mirrors such as Clearview or MSA let you see down the sides of the trailer, greatly improving safety when overtaking or reversing. We also recommend an electric brake controller (like the Redarc Tow-Pro) for any trailers above 750kg that have electric brakes – it’s actually a legal requirement for heavier trailers, and it helps you modulate the trailer’s braking smoothly, preventing sway. Additionally, if your MU-X or D-MAX’s rear sags under the trailer’s ball weight, we might suggest rear suspension airbag helpers or uprated springs (see Suspension section) to level it out.
Brands: Our go-to for towbars are TAG Towbars and Hayman Reese. TAG’s heavy-duty towbars are Australian-made and often rated right up to the vehicle’s max – for example, a TAG bar on a D-MAX will handle the full 3.5T and integrate neatly with the rear step. Hayman Reese is a household name in towing, known for their robust build and also their weight distribution hitches and sway control accessories which we can supply if you’re towing a large caravan – these help keep your rig level and stable at highway speeds. For towing mirrors, Clearview mirrors are extremely popular – they replace the factory mirrors with a larger dual-mirror design that slides outwards when needed. They’re custom-made for vehicles like the D-MAX/MU-X, so they bolt on and even come in black or chrome to match. MSA 4x4 also offers towing mirrors with a slightly different styling – they fold differently but achieve a similar extended view. Both brands are great, and it often comes down to personal preference of look and features. With these towing upgrades installed by our expert team, your Isuzu will be better equipped to tow through the ups and downs of the Great Dividing Range or across the windy roads of the Gold Coast hinterland safely, making your travel to the coast or out west with a trailer in tow much more relaxed.
One of the joys of owning a 4WD like an Isuzu is heading out camping and touring our beautiful region and beyond. To make your D-MAX or MU-X camp-ready, we offer a suite of accessories to cover shelter, sleeping, cooking, and more. For instance, adding an awning to the side of your vehicle provides instant shade and rain protection for your campsite – great for the sunny days out at Cressbrook Dam or when a surprise shower hits at a Darling Downs camp. If overnight adventures are your thing, a rooftop tent mounted on your roof rack lets you set up camp in minutes – no need to tow a camper trailer. Brands like Ironman 4x4 and Alu-Cab offer comfy rooftop tents that can sleep two and handle rough weather. Inside the vehicle, a fridge/freezer on a slide means cold drinks and fresh food anywhere you go; pair that with a dual battery (see Electrical section) and you have a portable fridge running 24/7. We can kit out your MU-X with a cargo drawer system to store camping gear, recovery gear, and the camp kitchen securely. Additionally, 12V camp lighting kits, mosquito-proof mesh for awnings, and portable gas stoves are popular add-ons. Essentially, these upgrades turn your Isuzu into a self-sufficient tourer – perfect for exploring places like Girraween National Park or even longer trips to Fraser Island.
Recommended Brands: We stock a wide range of camping accessories from names like Ironman 4x4, Alu-Cab, MSA 4x4, Clearview, Garmin, Pirate Camp Co, Rhino-Rack and Yakima. Ironman 4x4 has everything from awnings (with optional zip-on walls to create an annex) to chairs and tables – a one-stop shop for value-for-money camping gear. Alu-Cab is premium gear for serious overlanders: their Expedition rooftop tent and Shadow Awning are top-of-class, as are their tough-as-nails canopies for utes (useful if you want a canopy with integrated kitchen modules). MSA 4x4 offers excellent fridge slides and drop-down slides (which bring a heavy fridge down to a convenient height – very useful on a lifted D-MAX) and also makes canvas organizers and pantry bags to keep your gear tidy. Clearview not only does mirrors but also makes the Clearview Pantry/Kitchen and Easy Slide, nifty products for touring setups. We’d also highlight Garmin for GPS navigation units and satellite communicators – invaluable for finding your way on remote tracks or summoning help outside of phone range. Pirate Camp Co is a local Aussie outfit making creative camping gear – from fire pit accessories to storage solutions – adding some fun and practicality to your setup. And if you need to carry kayaks, bikes or extra jerry cans, Rhino-Rack and Yakima roof rack accessories have you covered (bike carriers, kayak cradles, etc.). With these camping upgrades, your Isuzu will be like a home on wheels, ready for any adventure that calls from the Toowoomba region to the Cape!
Roof racks are extremely useful on both the D-MAX and MU-X, as they expand your cargo capacity significantly. Given the MU-X is often packed with family and luggage, and the D-MAX’s tub might be full of tools or an ATV, the roof is prime real estate for extra gear. By installing a robust roof rack or platform, you can carry bulky or long items safely – think swags, tents, maxtrax, or even a tinny (small boat) on top of your ute’s cab. Off-road travelers often use the roof rack for items that are okay to be outside exposed to the elements, like spare fuel or firewood, keeping the cabin clutter-free. In the local context, if you’re a builder in Toowoomba you might throw ladders or pipes up top, or if you’re a weekend surfer heading to the coast, roof racks easily hold your surfboards. The key is to have a secure system that’s rated for the weight and fits the vehicle well.
Recommended Brands: We typically recommend Rhino-Rack and Yakima for Isuzu owners. Rhino-Rack’s Pioneer platform is a standout – it’s basically a flat modular tray that bolts to your roof rails or mounts, allowing you to strap down all sorts of gear. The Pioneer platform has a huge range of accessories (from shovel holders to spare wheel mounts) which many D-MAX touring builds utilize. Yakima offers aerodynamic crossbar-style racks like the FlushBar or TimberLine that are sleek and produce less wind noise – great if you mostly need to occasionally carry gear and want a stylish look on your MU-X. Both brands make vehicle-specific mounting kits, so we can fit them without any drilling in most cases, using factory points. Ironman 4x4 also has heavy-duty tradie racks if you prefer a steel cage style for your work ute. One thing we always discuss is weight: for example, the MU-X might have a roof load limit around 100kg, so we guide you to stay within that for safety (including the rack weight). Many local 4x4 owners have thanked us after getting a rack – suddenly their vehicle can do so much more, whether it’s mounting a rooftop tent for a week-long trip to Carnarvon Gorge, or just carting timber home from Bunnings. It’s an upgrade that adds daily utility and is almost a necessity for serious touring.
Good lighting is crucial for driving in country areas like the Darling Downs, and it’s also a big help off-road. The factory headlights on the D-MAX and MU-X are decent, but they’re focused for on-road use. When you’re driving after sunset on a back road (say between Warwick and Millmerran) and kangaroos lurk at the roadside, a powerful set of driving lights can give you the extra reaction time you need. We install LED spotlights or light bars that vastly improve forward visibility. Spotlights (round or rectangular lights) can throw a beam a long distance down the road, while light bars tend to give a wide spread to illuminate the sides as well. Many owners opt for a combo – perhaps two spotlights and one wide light bar – to get the best of both. Lighting upgrades also encompass camping lights (like LED strip lights for under awnings or inside your canopy) and reverse/work lights (helpful when hitching up a trailer at night or navigating tricky tracks in reverse). Inside your Isuzu, we can swap out dull interior bulbs for bright LEDs, making it easier to find things. Overall, improved lighting increases safety for night driving and convenience around the campsite.
Recommended Brands: We trust brands like Stedi, Lightforce, Narva, and Ironman 4x4 for lighting needs. Stedi has become hugely popular in the 4WD scene – they offer high-performance LED spotlights and bars at great prices, with slick designs (e.g. their ST4K light bar or Type X Pro spotlights would suit an Isuzu front end nicely). Lightforce is one of Australia’s original driving light manufacturers – their HID and LED lights are known for long-distance performance and durability (the big 9” Lightforce HTX or Genesis LEDs are common on bull bars across Queensland). Narva provides everything from upgraded headlight bulbs to compact LED work lamps; they have kits for rock lights (wheel arch lights) which some off-roaders install to see obstacles at night. Ironman 4x4 also has an array of lights, and we often use their affordable LED camp light kits for awnings or tailgates. When we fit lights, we also ensure proper wiring through relays and switches, often integrating with high-beam as needed (and keeping it all neat and water-safe for creek crossings). After a lighting upgrade, your night drive back to Toowoomba from a fishing trip at Leslie Dam will feel far more relaxed, as you’ll clearly see any critters or stray cattle well in advance.
Isuzus are known for their “truck-derived” diesel engines (the 4JJ3 in the latest models is legendary for reliability). Still, there are a few upgrades owners consider to either boost performance or enhance engine durability, especially under harsh conditions. One common addition is a snorkel for the D-MAX/MU-X. A snorkel elevates the air intake to roof height, which helps ensure cleaner, cooler air reaches your engine – beneficial in dusty convoys and also if you cross deep water, preventing water ingress. A snorkel can thus extend engine life by reducing dust intake. We also recommend fitting a secondary fuel filter (or fuel water separator) by Ryco or Direction-Plus to protect the high-pressure fuel system from dirty fuel or water contamination – important if you fill up in remote outback areas or use jerry cans. To improve stopping power (say, if you’ve added weight or tow often), upgrading brake pads to Bendix 4x4 pads or even slotted rotors can give you firmer, shorter braking, which is a big confidence booster coming down the range. For manual D-MAXes, an NPC heavy duty clutch ensures your clutch won’t burn out if you’re towing at max capacity or have bumped up the power with tuning. Speaking of power – Isuzu’s engines respond well to mild tuning; we can discuss ECU remaps or tuning modules that safely increase torque and power (great for towing or big tyres), but we always emphasize a conservative, reliability-focused tune. Lastly, consider a DPF back exhaust or high-flow air filter for a bit better breathing.
Recommended Brands: For snorkels, the Safari Snorkel is our top pick – they’re model-specific (ensuring a good seal and no engine warning lights), and Safari’s durable polyethylene construction can handle years of sun and scrapes. Ironman 4x4 also has snorkels as a budget alternative. The Ryco fuel filter kits are excellent – often a 30 micron pre-filter added under the bonnet – and they come with vehicle-specific brackets for a tidy fit. NPC Performance Clutches are Australian-made and have options like a heavier pressure plate or upgraded friction materials, built to handle high load without making the pedal too stiff. Bendix brake pads (the 4WD SUV range) and rotors are a straightforward swap that we can do quickly in the workshop – you’ll notice the difference next time you have a fully loaded MU-X descending steep Clifton Range roads. If you’re after a bit more oomph, we can supply modules like Safari ARMAX or Ultimate9 (formerly DP Chip), but we always couple that with EGT monitoring and proper advice. Our approach to performance is holistic: it’s not just about power, but keeping your Isuzu reliable in our hot QLD climate and dusty conditions. So we might also suggest an oil catch can (to keep the intake cleaner) or an extra transmission cooler if you tow – all small upgrades that pay off in longevity. In summary, we’ll help your Isuzu run stronger and last longer, whether it’s tackling Murphy’s Creek Road or crawling up rocky tracks in the Border Ranges.
Having reliable communication in your Isuzu can greatly enhance both safety and enjoyment on the road. The most common addition is a UHF CB radio for short-range communications. Whether you’re in a convoy of 4WDs, coordinating with others at a tough river crossing, or just wanting to chat between vehicles on a road trip, UHF is invaluable. In the Darling Downs region, UHF is often used by farmers and truck drivers too – you can switch to the local channel to hear harvesters or to call ahead when overtaking a road train on the highway. Importantly, in any off-road group trip, a UHF radio is essential for calling out hazards or asking for assistance – for example, if your MU-X is cresting a dune in the Simpson Desert, you’d call on the radio to let others know you’re coming over, helping prevent collisions. We typically mount the UHF unit in the cabin (neatly in the dash or center console) and pair it with an external antenna for range. Another aspect of comms is navigation & tracking – many tourers now use devices that can send an SOS via satellite (like a Garmin inReach) or at least a good off-line GPS for navigation (like the Hema Maps app on a tablet). While not traditional “communication” with others, these devices keep you connected to emergency help and on the right path.
Recommended Brands: We usually recommend GME and Uniden for UHF radios because of their proven performance in Australia. GME is Aussie-made and known for clear reception and rugged units (like the popular GME XRS series which can even be controlled via a smartphone app). Uniden offers very compact units (handy if you don’t have much dash space) and quality handheld UHFs which some people prefer for portability. RFI antennas are our choice to go with the radios – an RFI elevated-feed antenna or heavy-duty whip will ensure your signal carries across the wide-open Darling Downs plains. For navigation, we stock Garmin GPS units (the Overlander is a great all-in-one nav for on and off-road) and can install phone/iPad cradles to keep your maps in view. Also, if you need connectivity, we can hard-wire a Cel-Fi GO booster with an external antenna to dramatically improve mobile reception in fringe areas – helpful for those who work remote or travel far outside Toowoomba. With these communication and nav upgrades, your D-MAX or MU-X stays linked in – you can confidently explore knowing you’re never truly out of reach, and coordinating with your fellow travelers becomes effortless.
Equipping your Isuzu with the right electrical setup ensures all your accessories run smoothly, and you’re never stuck with a flat main battery. Many D-MAX and MU-X owners opt for a dual battery system to support camping fridges, camp lights, and other 12V gear. This involves adding a second battery (often a deep-cycle AGM or lithium) usually under the bonnet of the D-MAX or in the rear of the MU-X, and installing an intelligent isolator or DC-DC charger to manage the charging. The system charges the auxiliary battery when the engine is running and isolates it when off, so your cranking battery stays full to start the engine. If you love camping at Connolly Dam or Pyramids Road with your fridge running overnight, a dual battery is pretty much essential. We also upgrade power outlets – adding Merit sockets, USB chargers, or Anderson plugs where needed (for instance, an Anderson plug at the towbar to feed power to a caravan’s batteries or to plug in a solar panel). Another big category is 12V power management – using devices like Redarc’s Manager30 or Enerdrive systems that can handle solar input, shore mains charging, and give you an LCD readout of your battery status. It’s all about making the electrical side hassle-free so you can enjoy your trip. Additionally, driving with comfort can be improved by simple electrical add-ons like a dual battery monitor, interior LED conversions, or even installing a throttle controller (like an Ultimate9) to fine-tune throttle response – not an electrical supply per se, but electronically enhances drive feel (some customers like the sharper response in their MU-X).
Recommended Brands: We feature electrical products from Redarc, Projecta, Enerdrive, Cangoee, Ironman 4x4, and Couplertec. Redarc is immensely popular; their BCDC DC-DC chargers are basically the gold standard – made for Aussie conditions and even available in variants that work with smart alternators (which the newer Isuzus have). A Redarc BCDC charger will ensure your auxiliary battery gets the optimal charge, including from solar if you add a panel on the roof or bonnet. Projecta makes solid dual battery isolators and battery boxes (great if you want a portable second battery in the back rather than fixed install). Enerdrive is known for premium 12V gear – lithium batteries, AC chargers, and their ePRO monitor which some of our customers love for the detailed info. If you’re interested in lithium, we also have Cangoee drop-in lithium battery kits tailored for certain vehicles – they provide high capacity with low weight, perfect for maximizing power in a touring D-MAX build. Ironman 4x4’s range includes affordable dual battery kits (with isolators, trays, wiring) which are good for those on a budget but still wanting a reliable setup. On another note, Couplertec electronic rustproofing can be installed to protect your pride and joy from rust – useful if you drive on the beach or through a lot of mud and want that extra protection beyond regular cleaning. Electrical upgrades may not be as flashy as a lift kit or bull bar, but they’re the backbone of a self-sufficient 4WD. With our professional installation, you won’t have to worry about faulty wiring or dead batteries – everything will be fused, secure, and built to handle the corrugations out west and the storms of a Queensland summer.
Both the D-MAX and MU-X benefit greatly from smart storage solutions. Keeping gear organized not only makes life easier on the road but also improves safety (loose items can become missiles in rough terrain or an accident). One popular upgrade is installing a drawer system in the rear. For a D-MAX dual cab, we can fit dual drawers in the tub or canopy that slide out, giving you easy access to tools, recovery gear, or camping supplies without climbing into the back. In an MU-X, a single drawer or a set of drawers in place of the third-row seats (if you don’t need 7 seats) creates a huge storage compartment that’s like having a built-in toolbox in your boot. We often add a fridge slide alongside or on top of drawers so that your 12V fridge can be pulled out for convenient access to your food and drinks. Other nifty storage mods include seat cover organizers (like those by MSA or Black Duck that have molle webbing and pockets on the back), a roof console (adds a drop-down storage bin and a spot for your UHF), and cargo barriers which not only keep luggage secure but also provide a surface to strap things against. For those with lots of small items (first aid kit, air compressor, tie-downs), we set up storage boxes or bags in a logical arrangement, maybe under the rear seats of the D-MAX (there’s some room there) or secured in the MU-X cargo area. Think of it as giving everything a home, so you’re not unpacking the entire car to find one strap.
Brands: We trust solutions from Ironman 4x4, Pirate Camp Co, RV Storage Solutions, and MSA 4x4. Ironman 4x4 makes cost-effective drawer systems in various sizes – they have specific kits for popular utes and wagons, and we’ve fitted their D-MAX dual cab drawer kit which comes with a fridge slide on one side and a drawer on the other, all carpeted and flush-fitting. It’s great value. For more premium setups, RV Storage Solutions (an Aussie company) produces really high-quality steel frame drawers with up to 150kg load ratings – smooth operation and very durable for constant use (good for a tradie who’s in and out of them daily). MSA 4x4 is known for their Canvas Storage Bags and organizers – they do everything from barrier organizers to small parts bags. We often include a few MSA or Pirate Camp Co bags to stow recovery gear or kitchen utensils so they fit nicely in your drawers. Pirate Camp Co has some creative camping-focused storage ideas. If you run a fleet of vehicles, we can standardize the storage across all, which is handy for company gear. Ultimately, a well-organized 4WD means you can pack more and find things when you need them – and after we work our magic, your Isuzu will be ready to roll for that next fishing trip to Somerset Dam or the big Cape York adventure without the headache of clutter.
One big advantage of the Isuzu D-MAX is its versatility for work or touring, especially when you consider tray and canopy configurations. If you bought a cab-chassis D-MAX or you’re open to removing the factory tub, a custom tray can increase your carrying space and durability. Steel or alloy trays often have drop sides for easy loading (imagine tossing fencing materials on the back on a property), and they’re usually tougher against scratches or dents from heavy equipment. For touring, many people pair a tray with a canopy – essentially creating a secure, weatherproof “wagon” out of the ute. Inside a canopy, you can build the ultimate camping setup: sliding drawers, fridge on a slide, a gullwing door that becomes a camp table, etc. It transforms how you use the D-MAX, making it a serious overland rig. Even for the MU-X, while you can’t add a tray, we do consider storage systems (like a half-height cargo drawer with a flat deck on top to simulate a ute’s storage). However, since the MU-X is a wagon, this Tray & Canopy section mainly applies to the D-MAX.
Recommended Brands: We partner with top-notch tray/canopy manufacturers Norweld and Duratray for utes. Norweld is renowned for their high-end aluminum tray and canopy packages – if you’ve seen those Instagram-worthy touring utes with full canopy setups, chances are it’s a Norweld. They offer configurations specific to the D-MAX size, with features like built-in water tanks, spare wheel carriers, and full electrics fit-out available. A Norweld tray is light (no rust issues) yet super strong – built in Cairns, they’re proven in tough outback conditions. Duratray builds excellent steel trays, which might be more suited if you’re using the D-MAX as a hard-working farm or trade vehicle. Steel trays can handle a bit more constant abuse (like carrying machinery) and can be repaired or modified locally if needed. We can have a Duratray fitted in a way that integrates with rear camera and sensors, so you don’t lose modern features. Along with those, if you want something like a service body or toolboxes, we can source those as well – companies like Mits Alloy or RSI make specialist canopies, but our primary are Norweld and Duratray due to their reliability and our familiarity with them. By upgrading to a quality tray or adding a canopy, your D-MAX becomes even more tailored to your needs – be it a mobile toolbox that can tackle the rough tracks to a job site, or an “expedition truck” ready for a lap around Australia. And don’t worry – our team in Toowoomba ensures all swaps are engineered and plated properly (especially important if we do a chassis extension or GVM upgrade in conjunction).
Whether your Isuzu is a daily driver or an off-road toy, having some recovery gear on board is cheap insurance. Out on rural properties or tracks, even a tough D-MAX can find itself in a sticky situation – it could be soft ground by a dam or deep sand on Bribie Island. With proper recovery equipment, you can often self-recover or help a mate, turning a potential trip-ender into a minor hiccup. The basics include a snatch strap or kinetic rope, rated bow shackles or soft shackles, a tyre deflator and compressor (to adjust tyre pressures which is often the first step in recovery), and perhaps traction boards (like Maxtrax) for giving your tyres something to grip in mud or sand. For more serious adventurers, a winch is a game-changer – it allows controlled, powerful recovery forward or backward as long as you have a tree or another vehicle to anchor to. In our region, if you do high-country tracks or go out after heavy rain, a winch could save you from a long walk to find help. We always emphasize using rated recovery points on the vehicle (never use the tie-down points or tow balls for snatch recoveries, as they can shear off). Luckily, the D-MAX and MU-X often have bolt-on kits available for proper recovery points, and we can fit those easily. Think of recovery gear as your safety net – you hope not to need it, but when you do, you’ll be extremely glad it’s there. As the saying goes, quality recovery gear is worth its weight in gold if you’re stuck somewhere remote.
Recommended Brands: We stock robust recovery equipment from Ironman 4x4, Warn, and Saber Offroad (among others). Ironman 4x4 offers complete recovery kits that are perfect for the casual user – typically including a snatch strap, shackles, gloves, and a carry bag. They also make winches that are both reliable and budget-friendly (their 9500lb or 12,000lb winch would suit an Isuzu well). On the premium end, Warn winches are legendary – if you want the ultimate in dependability and maybe have outfitted your MU-X into a tourer, a Warn VR Evo or ZEON series winch is an investment that won’t let you down. Saber Offroad is known for innovative recovery gear like their woven kinetic ropes and soft shackles, which are lighter and safer than traditional nylon straps and steel shackles. We highly recommend these modern alternatives – kinetic ropes provide a smoother pull (less jarring on the vehicle) and soft shackles won’t become dangerous projectiles if something fails. Additionally, we have recovery boards (Treds or Maxtrax) which can often get you unstuck without any tugging – just clear the path and drive out. In Toowoomba and surrounds, we occasionally see boggy blacksoil that can trap a 4x4, or if you go beach driving up at Noosa North Shore, sand can catch you out. Having recovery gear from these reputable brands means you can attempt a recovery with confidence. And of course, our team will happily give you a demo or basic training on how to use the gear safely – we’re passionate about 4WD safety and want all our customers to enjoy their off-road forays and return home with stories, not regrets!
Isuzu D-MAX utes are a favorite for many commercial fleets – from council utility vehicles to mining site crew trucks – thanks to their robustness and value. If you manage a fleet or use your Isuzu for business, we offer tailored fleet fit-out services to meet those needs. This often involves adding specialized equipment or safety features so the vehicle aligns with your industry standards and helps your team work effectively. For example, a worksite D-MAX might need an amber rotating beacon or strobe light (to warn others when parked on-site), high-visibility striping, or a UHF radio programmed to the company channel. We also install dual battery setups with inverter power for mobile workshops – say your team needs to charge tools or run a small appliance, we can make that happen safely. Driving school or work fleet? We can add additional mirrors or in-cabin cameras. Fire and emergency services? Outfitting with light bars, sirens, and extra alternator capacity is in our wheelhouse. We know downtime is costly, so we strive to outfit fleet vehicles efficiently and reliably, so they pass any required inspections (mining spec, etc.) and stand up to the job.
Recommended Brands: For fleet solutions, we use heavy-duty gear from Ionnic, Narva, and Projecta among others. Ionnic produces purpose-built auto-electrical components for fleets – think pre-wired switch panels, battery isolator units, and lighting like beacons and LED worklights that bolt on and plug in with minimal fuss. They understand fleet requirements deeply (many mining companies use Ionnic kits). Narva has an extensive range of safety lights (beacons, light bars), as well as industrial switches, relay modules, and wiring harnesses that are perfect for consistent fleet installations. Using Narva products, we can ensure each vehicle in your fleet has the exact same, reliable setup – easing maintenance. Projecta provides top-quality charging solutions – if your fleet D-MAX needs to run a fridge and tools all day, a Projecta DC-DC charger and maybe a shore power charger for overnight will keep the batteries healthy. We also handle fabrication of mounts or protective guards for lights and equipment if necessary. And if your business operates around Toowoomba or into remote areas, we can integrate tracking GPS or telematics systems as well. Our team works with local companies and government departments to deliver fleet vehicles that are ready to work the moment they leave our workshop. We’re proud to support our region’s industries by ensuring their 4WDs are equipped for safety, compliance, and productivity on the job.
